ICYMI: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio installed on ES&S Election Equipment

Updated: Mar 14, 2022

Multiple technical experts discovered Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio installed on ES&S election equipment in Antrim County. SQL Server Management Studio is not part of the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) certified software configuration for use on electronic voting systems.

Logs from the election management system indicated technicians responsible for deploying the project files to Antrim County also had access to numerous other counties' project files.

This software tool was utilized in expert testing to replicate the Antrim County election vote tally manipulation. Testing indicated that vote modification can be pre-planned and deployed prior to an election. If this non-certified software – that is capable of changing election results – were found on any of Nebraska’s election devices, it would be grounds for decertification of the 2020 election. It will be interesting to see where this SQL software is found next and the data manipulations that resulted during the 2020 election.
