ICYMI: EO13971 - Addressing the Threat Posed by Applications & Other Software by Chinese Companies

On January 5, 2021, President Trump signed Executive Order 13971: Addressing the Threat Posed by Applications and Other Software Developed or Controlled by Chinese Companies. One of the companies President Trump singled out in this executive order is Tencent QQ. Tencent QQ is owned by Tencent Holdings Ltd. Tencent Holdings Ltd has many subsidiaries in various markets for internet-related services and products. One of those subsidiaries is Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Company Limited. Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Company Limited holds a patent under the 705/12 - Voting or Election Arrangement.

The same day, the FBI, CISA, ODNI, and NSA released a joint statement on the formation of the Cyber Unified Coordination Group, which “indicates that an advanced persistent threat actor, is responsible for most or all of the recently discovered, ongoing cyber compromises of both government and non-governmental networks."
